I was going to install a full face cluster, but it looks like too much damn work. So Im going to install a 3 bay gauge with temp batt oil. Thn Im adding a tach. My only question is, where do i hook it up and will this screw with the ecm?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the ECU uses a "wasted spark" setup on the engine. You will need some form of adapter for the tach to work properly.

As for the full gauge cluster, why is it so hard to install? I did mine in about 20 minutes, and had the OPS of worked right I would have left it. It's no harder to swap the cluster than to install a new radio.

He has a mechanical speedometer.

Anyway, yes, you'll need a tachometer than can cut the RPMs in half. The DIS uses a waste spark method-directly meaning if you just connect it you'll get twice the actual RPM values.

But otherwise, no, it shouldn't screw with anything.

my tachs connected to the white wire coming off the ignition. Its really easy with the 3.3l. Just make sure all your wires are covered cause Im pretty sure it aint gonna be good if one melts and arcs on something hot.

oh ...by the way the sunpro tach i used has a switch in the back to work with dis ignitions. Check to make sure the one you have has the same option or is for dis.

Yep, I am looking at the diff between 88 cluster pinouts and it is quite a bit for sure.
Where are you going to put 4 gauges?

With the removal of the ashtray, 3 gauges could go there. And the Tach could either go on the column like above or on the A pillar.

When I removed my ashtray, I mounted a 2 socket power adaptor and a switch for my driving lights on the lip of the long trim piece that has the vents in it. The hang down over the opening where the ashtray used to be.

since its twice a 3 0n a regular cars tach would be 3x1000 or 3000 rpm, all i have do to is take the face out and type rpm times 500 so a 3 would be 1500 rpm.

4 cyl full clusters aren't easy to find but they are out there.

Id just go wither seperate guages. I think each of mine took all of like 15 mins to install.

I have no idea what thought or feeling your trying to convey, could you be a little more clear?

I'm not sure why I keep hearing this. There's no need for an adaptor, you simply just hook the tach lead up to the tach signal wire on the DIS. For example, I have the factory tach from a DIS-equipped '87 Celebrity in my '86 Celebrity with a good 'ol disributor. The tach reads correctly, not half the RPM.

And installing the full cluster is a bit more work on his car. I tried doing it to mine, but it's not plug and play. The pin-outs for our dummy light clusters to the full clusters are different. If I were going to do it, I'd have to wire everything up seperately, like adding aftermarket gauges. Just for fun I stuck the full cluster in my car and drove it for a bit. The speedo worked (cause it's mechanical) but the speed sensor wasn't hooked up, and when I turned the lights on, the gas gauge pegged one way. None of the other gauges worked either. And since the speed sensor wasn't hooked up, the TC wouldn't lock up, and Cruise Control wouldn't work. So it's quite a bit of work, but I want it done someday, right now I'm trying to get the car inspected, my father just spent two whole days repairing holes. I'll post pics later

yea hooking my tach to the dis system was pretty damn easy..its just a white wire coming from the module under the coil packs.

I had a similar thing when I tried that a year or so ago (before I started a huge thread about it). The dimmer switch would cause the gas gauge to slightly move up/down depending on the intensity (but I will say that the full cluster gauge is a lot more accurate than my idiot one when it come o gas). SES light came on with the parking brake, etc etc. NOthing else worked except the speedo.
