Im lookin for a good lil winter car. And i stumbled apon this car sitting in somebodys driveway. Its a 1990 Pontiac 6000 LE. 3.1 V6 Automatic, manual windows and locks, cruise, working a/c. The car Needs a battery, and the exhaust is loud. I started it with a new battery and It runs pretty decent, it started right up, after sitting for over a year not being started. And It didnt smoke abit. All fluids were up and full. But the transmission fluid was red before i started it, and turned amber when i started and drove it around, and was kinda ariated. But the trans shifted into gear quick and smooth and shifted perfect with no slipping. Also i noticed the radiator fan wouldnt come on, but i didnt let it run for a super long time. It seemed to have a slight shake to the engine, almost a misfire, and it was kinda doggy off the line, but it really had some get up and go. The body is decent, small surface rust spots, small dent in the fender, had good windshield, fog lights.

Im going to give her 500$ for the car, and the tires are nearly new, and it drove really well, suspension is firm and it drives straight and stopped great. The only thing that worried me is the tranny fluid, but maybe just a pan drop and filter change will help. And a good tune up and possibly put some different coils i have laying around on it to see if that helps with the missfire it has. Car has 206k on it

Hard to beat five hundred bucks for a running car with few problems. I wouldn't worry too much about the miles, if it runs as well as you say.

Sounds ok. But if its been sitting for a year, you can expect some problems. Its got a lot of miles and a motor with known headgasket issues. Check to oil for antifreeze contamination. Check to antifreeze for oil. The shake and misfire could be a blown headgasket. The fan won't come on until 220-230 degrees or unless the A/C in on. Offer 250 or 300 and go from there. Or check it out further.

Oil looked dark but perfectly up level. The coolant was a tad low. She told me in the the dead of summer, wich is about 100 degrees, she was driving with the a/c on and the temp light came on one time a month or 2 before she stopped driving it. It didnt smell like antifreeze or anything when running, exhaust smelled pretty normal. Iv never herd of 3.1s having any headgasket problems unless thier overheated extensivly. If u revved it the missfire went away immiedatly, and revved smoothly. the missfire was just at idle, and right off idle, anything more and it smoothed out, sounded just as smooth as my 3.1 in my Grand Prix

the misfire might be the o2 sensor...that was the problem on my 6000, and we took it to one of my friends at the pontiac dealer and he unplugged it and i stopped misfiring. and as far as the head gasket goes i dont thin you blew it. even though i have a 2.8, i didnt pay attention to it and i let it go a week with a stuck thermostat and i live in the desert; and also the fan wasnt working and we changed it. it came out to like $40 for the fan and thermostat at autozone. and the little 2.8 has 223030 miles...+ - but you got a good buy

it sounds like a pretty good deal. i bought my 90 this spring with 87.000kms and it had the slight misfire too. i changed the plugs+wires (ac-delco) which helped a bit, but months later at 96.000kms it still has the slight misfire, but performs well and still pretty darn good on gas

my fan relay was fried and it was overheating when i bought it

good luck

I bought my '84 over year ago with a slight misfire at quick race of rpms followed by a complete drop off. (Basically slam on the gas then take your foot off completely). I hasn't gotten worse and only does it during those conditions. All in all not a bad deal for $600.

You car sounds like it's in better shape than mine, so I'd say go for it! :)
