Would a 4T60 trans from a 3,3 Ciera be a direct swap into my 86 GS's with a T440 transmission? Or would I have to do some electrical work? Looking to just install a new trans into my one car and have a cheap line on a 4T60. If it will go in using my stock wiring harness,I may get it,if not I need to start looking for another trans.

Second,
Anyone know if the headliner is the same on a 2 door Ciera as a 2 door Century? Not worried about the covering, just need the backing board so I can install one in the newest car. I also need to locate the material to cover them. Any suggestions as to where I can locate the materials??

For the tranny, it can work with a little fiddling. You need to use your original cable drive speedo stuff, PRND switch, vacuum modulator and then tinker with the electrical connector on the front of the tranny. It's well worth doing because the later trannies are stronger.

For the headliner, they look to be the same as long as its from a square window car. You can get the material from Jo-Ann Fabrics or an upholstery shop.

Yes it will work. As 86Euro said, you will need to exchange some of your components. The newer transmissions are a LOT better than the old ones.

The internal wiring between the 2 transmissions is different. You may not be able to adapt it without changing the internal trans harness. The transmission's internal harness includes the plug on the outside of the transmission where the car's harness connects.

That internal harness plugs into the lockup solenoid (same on all models) and plugs into pressure switches (they vary by model) that tell the ECM what gear it's in as the transmission automatically shifts through the gears.

Just take the end covers off both transmissions (nothing will fall out - it is just a sheet metal cover). Look at your old one and notice where the wire connectors go. Look at the new one and you will see it may have more pressure switches in it. You may have a 2-wire pressure switch in your old transmission. If the new one does not have this, you will need to move it to your new transmission, into the same position.

Connect your original wiring harness to the same switch positions (in the new trans) that they came from in the old one. There may be switches in the new trans that do not have a wire connected after you install your original harness.

I have most of the internal wiring diagrams for these transmissions and will be glad to post them to help you do the wiring swap. You are going to be worlds ahead with a newer transmission! E-mail me about the wiring if you go that route. Will be glad to help but make sure you e-mail me because next week I will not be online other than via e-mail.

Depending on the donor car's ECM configuration and your ECM configuration, you may be able to adapt the car's harness by repalcing the connector but if your car has the 2-wire pressure switch this will not work.

Shortly I will post the internal wiring. This is a VERY EASY mod, will allow you to keep your car's harness all original and allow a much stronger late-model transmission.

Thanks,
David

Here (http://68.209.87.173/Temp/440T4_internal_wiring.pdf) are the wiring diagrams. If no work, wait and try later - my 'puter might be offline!
