okay of do you test to make sure they work i think i fried a one or more..............along with my glowplug contrailor and my eletice lift pump................................. becuase my temp lights always on even the the block is like 40 degress.
so if any of the 4.3 guys here have an extra GPC i could by that would be great becuase i dont thnk people make them any more....

What's a GPC? Some sort of scanner? You can check the temp sensors resistance, but the values are in the manual and I don't have one for the diesel. Or a Century.
On my 92 you can tell if the computers in open or closed loop by grounding the diagnostic terminal while the engine is running. Quick flashing service engine soon means its closed, slow means its open. Don't try that though until your sure it will work. I have no idea about the early A's and there TBI or whatever the hell they use for diesel fuel injection.

my short a glow plug contrlor. its a device that takes some temp readings and tells how long to run the glow plugs on a deisels. (that have them some dont like the semis because there comp ratios are high enought ot make enough to to start.)

4.3 .
Look Here: Experts > Autos > Trucks > GM-GMC > Glow Plug adjustment
(http://en.allexperts.com/q/GM-GMC-781/Glow-Plug-adjustment.htm)
It could be similar in operation...

Oh! The glowplugs! I thought you were talking about the Coolant temperature sensor.
Then I have no idea.

i am talking about Coolant temperature sensor. i just tell how i think i fried on or more................. glow plugs are easy to check growned the threaded part and get a check light and hook it to the power tab it the light lights up there good.

ECM's coolant temp sensor is a Negative Thermal Coefficient Thermistor. All that means is that the HOTTER it gets, the LESS resistance it has. The following table will give you some test points.
Don't know if the glow plug controller uses a standard GM ECM sensor or not!
One trick to test glow plugs is to measure the current on the main power feed to the glow plug circuit. Divide by 22 and this is how many glow plugs are still working. The current tapers off in seconds as the plugs heat up and you have to be ready to measure as soon as the plugs are actuated. This holds true for plugs that use 22 amps a piece, don't know 'bout yours!
If your instrument cluster "TEMP" warning is on all the time it has a separare switch and the wire is shorted or the warning switch is bad.
Temperature (°F) - Resistance (ohms)
210 177
194 241
176 332
158 467
140 667
122 973
104 1,459
86 2,238
68 3,520
50 5,670
32 9,420
14 16,180
-4 28,680
-22 52,700
-40 100,700

Do you have a wiring diagram showing the glow-plug system? I don't know exactly how this works on GM cars. Some of the Perkins diesels use a system with 6V rated plugs on a 12V system. The controller only allows them to operate for a few seconds to keep from melting them. It looks at engine temperature and contains a timer and high-current contactor.
If you have a diagram, it should be not too hard to figure out.

What is connected to the controller besides the plugs themselves?
