okay guys as some of you know i made the classic mistake of thinking that 7 flb's was not tight enough for an oil pan.....and streched the pan to the point ware it leaked oil around block and pan....also found that i had a seepping oil cooler line (bad angle and i didnt get it tight enough) that was part of the oil leak mess.

so i pulled the motor and am doing the pan, rear main seal (rope type yuck but the only on that is made for that motor oh well), time cover gasket, and the rest of the lower gaskets.

the problem i have is the timeing cover gasket that was in the kit from felpro was a set ment to do waht looks to be a 4.3 RWD block (semi different block) and the time cover gasket is not right.

so can a use red rtv to make a gasket? i don't want this to fail because the time cover it the back half of the water pump and the water run though two holes cut in the cover and then in to the block. and it doesnt look like a fun in car job but it is do able.

well, maybe try to locate the correct gasket. According to napa, we dont offer a timing cover gasket for the FWD version...... You may want to look into anarobic sealer, dries in the abcense of oxygen, alittle better of an idea if you dont want those dried RTV goobers gettin in the oil and cooling system. RTV should work fine. Use black though, not red. More oil resistance

Get a tube of Mopar silver RTV, I can get you a part# if you like, or even send you a tube. The stuff has fantastic oil resistance and we use it on everything at the shop. When I built the 350 for my Camaro, I used one of those new (at the time) 2 piece timing covers and it leaked like crazy at the bottom. I took it back apart and resealed it with the rtv, plus extra at the bottom, and it has been bone dry ever since.

RockAuto.com (http://www.rockauto.com/index.php?a=screech.ws) lists CORTECO Part # 14650 under the Timing Cover Gasket Set for your Century. It's priced at $3.99. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a picture. Maybe worth checking out? If you give them a call you might be able to confirm that it's the gasket you're looking for.
