A while ago i posted about my axel supposedly bein not so good. I got advice on here to change the grease but my moms boyfriend told me its sealed shut. What to do about that? Now the tranny. It shifts at around 20 mph, than 30 mph, now the next shift shouldnt be until around 50 mph, but it seems the 2nd shift isint completely done until around 40 mph. Can a tranny get a tune up? If so should I have that done and what would be the going rate on that? Thanks in advance, Nate.

well its not that, its actually shifting into 3rd at 40, and you feel it locking the torqu converter at about 50, wich feels alot like a shift. Dont worry about that, but if you wanna do some good, get the fluid changed at a lube place. Axles for our cars are dirt cheap, like 45-50 bucks for one, and are quite easy to change, dont bother with trying to replace the boots, if they are broken, dirt gets in and just destroys the bearings and its usually too late to fix, not to mention to replace the boots, you must take it out anyway! If the grease your talkin about is the boot right? They dont change the grease, its sealed up yes, and if it splits (wich why they fail 99% of the time) then just replace the axle, save some headache.

So even though new tranny fluid was put in at 139,000 miles, last august, i should get it flushed and than more new stuff? Im thinking that it shoulda been flushed when the tranny fluid was replaced the first time... =/. Thanks for the help, ill be keeping all of this in mind and when the time comes to change the axel.

What color is the fluid? The shifting pattern you described sounds fine other than that your confusing lockup with a shift. If still has a red tint I'd leave it alone..

The fluid should still be a reddish color considering its fairly new tranny fluid. When we got rid of the old stuff it was DARK.
