That's the first time I've heard of a starter actually BREAKING apart. Any way to tell if its the original?

starters fine but the bolts that bolt it to the block....on of thouse brock and the other brock off a piece of the the stater were the bolt head meats the the starter so i looks like im going to have to find that piece and weld or shell out the cash and get a new starter nad use lock tight on the bolts
if part of the bolt is sticking out you might be able to use a tool that grabs the shaft and tightens as you remove the bolt shaft, like a stud remover.
if its inside the hole use a small drill bit and keep increasing the size until only a small wall of the bolt is left and then you can use a punch to collapse the wall of the bolt without hurting the threads
