I'd really like to get an aftermarket steering wheel for my car but it has an airbag. Can I still do it? How?

The airbag light has been on since I bought the car, even with the fuse pulled. So it may not even work, I don't know.

AFAIK it's illegal to remove the airbag from your car.

That being said I think airbags cause _way_ more harm than good...

It's not illegal unless you get caught.
And I agree, I know so many people that have been in accidents where the airbag caused more damage to them then the actual accident.

I dont know why some people say that. A nairbag is put there for your protection, so you down slam your chest into the steering wheel

It is not illegal as far as I know to do it yourself (You may not pass inspections though) what is illegal is for a shop to do it for you. I work at a place here in NY for YEARS and people always wanted us to do it for them. We could show them how but couldnt do it for them.

I'm in Florida, we don't have inspections here, so no problems there.
I just don't know how to do it.
Does the airbag have to deploy before I can get to the nut?

It just unbolts from the back, make sure to unhook the battey, unhook the connector its yellow, under the dash. Then, wait like 10 minutes to let the capaciter discharge, and remove the bolts on the back of the wheel and ur at the nut

Why would you want to be without the protection of an airbag? As for "doing more harm than good" that applies to those who put young children and little old ladies in front of passenger side air bags. A-body cars never came with passenger side air bags so that's not a concern. I have NEVER heard of a late-model A-body (1993-1996) having an unintended air bag deployment.

I have a friend who would never wear his seatbelts. He survived 5 accidents that way, but after a head-on collision on icy roads he changed his mind. Same thing goes for airbags. You've a lot to lose by not keeping one installed on a car that has one.

Oh please that whole airbags are worse for you BS has been proved over and over again, they are not dangerous, bunch of stupid rumors just like seatbelts, i personally would rather eat a semi soft airbag than a hard fuckin steering wheel and knock all my teeth out and mangle my face.
