The Dark Side of Will

I think that the lines of the A-body, especially the '89 and later with the sloping back window aren't bad, but my '90 has huge rub strips down the sides of it. I'd like to smooth it. I don't think it will be too hard to remove the rub strips from the doors and between the wheels (remove the strips, grind down the attaching lugs and repaint), but I'm perplexed about what to do with the rub strips in front of the front wheels and behind the rear wheels. If I just remove them, then the bumper won't match.
Did the very early 6000's have different bumpers than the later 6000's? Bumpers that didn't need as much rub strip to fit smoothly? I think I've seen pictures of 6000's and other A-bodies with much smaller rub strips on the doors than my car has, but I'm not sure about what they had outside the wheels.
I'd like to see pictures of 6000's through various years to see what's available to swap onto my car...
