okay guys as you well know oppration 4.3 man buick century crazyness is almost down. but when all should have been smooth sailing (aka motors in wired and you turn the key and pray) the fing KEY TRUNS AND DOES NOT MOVE THE STARTER SWTICH ROD!!!!!!!. and its so not off at the switch end!!! as im looking i droped the column, and pulled the switch only to find that the rod was in place. do i pulled the streeting wheel and lock plate to find that the key is move the shaft that moves the slider that moves the rod but pulling on the rod does not move the slider ect. so the rod is discontected in side the damn column...........

fether more the lever that you have to push to remove the key isnt working either so you can freely spin the assbly.....idk why did this have to break now when i worked when i put it in and word the first time i turned the key but then broke

any idea or help.

dont want to. the hole restion for using this column is so i dont turn the key to off and lock the steering wheel when driving (say in and imerceny shutdown) looks like i can change some pieces though......but its going ot be intressing.....and i've been avoiding it

From what I understand the steering columns are not all interchangeable. I'm not sure which years fit the '82, but someone here may be able to help. I believe the Hollander interchange books (owned by many salvage yards) could help as well. I'm sorry you're having such problems. Great that you've saved an '82 diesel though!
