Now that my drivability issues are cured, I'm starting to look at the other (minor) issues the 6000 has....the most annoying being the non-functioning cruise control. I have the factory manual, and I've gone as far as verifiying I have vacuum to the servo, but that's it. Are there any common issues people've run into here?? If I have to, I'll troubleshoot the whole system, but was hoping to take a shortcut if there are chronic problems w/it....

yes, the Cruise switch. The whole turn signal lever, POS is 80 bucks, and all the junkyard ones i have gotten seem to work for like a week and thats it. You can verify by just pulling the connector at the bottom of the column and just plug your "new" switch in and verify if works before you go through the trouble of replacing it. and DO NOT just pull the lever and its wiring out without tieing a peice of heavy wire to the end of it, then pull the wire up the column with the switches wiring, attch your new one to the wire, and pull it back down the column.

$20 on ebay all day long. They are aftermarket but they work GREAT!!! I have used them for 2 different vehicles!!!! Test the switch.

Thanks!

This forum rocks. I've had my '95 Century for about 4 month, and that's next on the list. Gotta have my cruise!

Does anyone know if the newer style would work? My grandma's 02 century has a newer style one, but the same layout, and it feels SOOO much sturdier than the one in my car (my cruise has also died a while ago). Any thoughts?

I had to pull a part off a wreck for my '90 Century with cruise. I think it was called a vacuum modulator (not sure)? Anyway the used part fixed my problem.

As for salvage multi-function levers (including cruise) the trick is to find one with little or no wear to the lettering - those have always worked fine. If the lettering is worn off it is probably worn out. Also check the wires to make sure none is frayed. They are easy to remove, you may have to drop the panel under the steering column.
