:) Ok, you CAN take a joke, even a mean one. That's a good sign :)

I hope you get it for the price you have offered, without interruptions from others.

He took it better than ME! LOL. I would feel really bad if someone posted something here they wanted and then someone else here outbid them. That is why when I found the 2 STE's i NEVER posted them to ANYONE cause I just dont TRUST people.

Good luck Tongle

But.... but.... I thought it was "spoiler time" ... it say's so in the thread title... so I tried my best to spoil things for him :D

Good he got the spoiler he wanted. And yes, trust is a difficult issue. Good intentions are fine, but too often people let other issues come in the way of good and correct behavior. I'm a fool when it comes to trusting others... I know I shouldn't, but I always give people the benefit of the doubt... until I have burnt my fingers on the same person a couple of times... then I exclude "that" person for a while... but normally open up the door again for more crap to come from "that" same person later on. My real world name means "Trustworthy" in Icelandic, so I have always been aware of the need to be honest and trustworthy, having that sign around my neck. Honesty costs nothing, while lies can cost one everything. The richest of the richest and the poorest of the poorest in this world can afford being honest, so it's not a class issue.

Ohhhh I give my share, and get burned for it too like tuddi does. But I like to THINK I learn quicker. There is about 3 or 4 people in my life I let use me over and over again then there are others I prolly didnt give enough of a chance to. OH WELL.

Very nice..

Curious as to what the width of the deck lid is from edge to edge

I have bought many parts from that guy, he is very nice and you won't have any problems with him. I would even go so far as to say you can go ahead and leave him good feedback.

Message boards need more people like you, Tuddi.

Tuddi

lol

I've been running messageboards for the past 5 years. I've got this mega Hoover dam of words inside of me, and using forums is my way to keep the flow under control... and it's also a way for me to improve upon my English, which is now my 3rd most used language (out of 11).

Got it today. Toomorrow, if I'm not still sick and the weather is somewhat decent, I'll try to install it.

Any tips on waterproofing it, so that water doesn't leak into the holes?

Tuddi

Silicone. Cheap, easy and works.

LordDurock

Silicone. Cheap, easy and works.

The factory plastic gaskets work well, but that would be good to add as extra insurance.

Tonglebeak
11-10-2007, 01:16 AM
I don't think factory gaskets were included... :(

86euro
11-10-2007, 02:38 AM
If that guy didn't include them, then they weren't on the car to begin with. I've never payed much attention to the lighted models, they may not have had them like the non-lighted. Either way, silicone will work just fine to seal the holes. The first one I put on didn't come with gaskets and I just drilled holes and mounted it, without silicone even. Still doesn't leak to this day:D

wtf how is that possible? >_>

Would I apply the rtv from the inside-out (so it's not visible from the outside)?

86euro

Just put the rtv around the base of each stud where it screws into the spoiler. Then when you tighten up the nuts, it will squish into the holes and seal them off.

Are you going to have it painted, or are you going to spray paint it? If you spray paint it, remember to scuff it well with a red scotch-brite pad so the paint doesn't chip off.

Tonglebeak
11-10-2007, 03:54 AM
Paint what? The spoiler? I'm leaving it as is.

Do the edges of the drilled holes need to be painted with touchup paint, or will the rtv itself be able to prevent rusting?

Tuddi

Where you drill the holes, you will expose the metal. If you have primer, you should put it on. Then put a couple of drops of paint over it. That way you are not making problems for the future.

I haven't done this yet. I have the hole locations calculated, but I'm not going through with this just set...

On the center of my deck lid, there is a hump that spans from end to end (from rear window to rear of the car). I'm worried that the brake light will not be able to sit on it properly.

86euro, any thoughts on that?

IIRC, the studs on the spoiler are removable. Unscrew them with small vice-grips (at the base of the threads where it won't affect anything) and set the spoiler on the trunk to see how it fits. I don't have a Ciera here to look at, but I don't remember there being a severe hump or anything that may cause an issue. A small difference in contours will take care of itself when the spoiler is tightened down because the sheet metal will actually conform a little bit. Can you post some pics?

Tonglebeak
11-10-2007, 09:52 PM
It's dark outside, but I can try. Hang on for a bit...

Tuddi
11-10-2007, 09:54 PM
How high is the hump? If it is too high, you could always lift the spoiler with custom cut pieces of rubber or hard plastic. 1/8 inch or so should give enough clearing?

Tonglebeak
11-11-2007, 10:00 PM
It's on there now. What a bitch. I have extra holes drilled in my trunk now that I rtv'd, and I'm sure there's going to be rust in the future. Plus my spoiler got scratched up a lot in the process. Whatever. It's dark out and here's a crappy pic, I'll try to get some during the daytime tomorrow if I can:

I think I would like it better if the colour matched the colour of the car. Apart of that, it looks as if it was made for this car. Snug-fit for the light... not much to give off there. Did it have some clearance?

Tonglebeak
11-13-2007, 02:08 AM
Yes it did.

The spoiler will match once I can afford to get the car painted black (I've been wanting to try maaco but I here too much bad about them, plus I need a new passenger door since I have rust on the bottom of it, and I also have some rust spots popping up around the rear quarter panels.)

I too am a fan of body-colored spoilers, but it still looks great;)
