T.B.88 - Can't wait to see the body and paintwork completed! I'm sure it will look like a new car. Once again - we're all curious about your turbo system so don't be shy about snapping a couple pictures of that part too! It's hard for me to understand why you would be afraid to show that after going to the trouble to swap an engine or fab a turbo system.

David

Ok, So you guys want to see the turbo set up? Here she is:rock:

This is not the first car I have turbocharged. In the past I had 3 other cars that were turboed including a Murcury Capri XR2:dunno:(thats when I was into the ricer stuff rice pipe 2.0 turbo engine, Nitrous blew up piston #2:rofl:) my old 79 Camaro Z/28 had a T3 turbo and a few other bolt ons too numerous to list and a Chrysler Laser with a 2.2 Turbo engine. I still have that but it has a warped head. She might get rebuilt over the summer if i can find another 2.2 engine somewhere...

Now to the buick. Its a LB6 2.8 H.O.(all stock on the inside) with a 2.84 axle and a MD9 3speed auto trans. A larged T.B. was swiped from a 3.3 and a cold air intake. the turbo on it now is a Garrett T-25, running at 10 PSI at WOT. I plan on upgrading it to a new Garrett GT2560R-466541-1 turbo this summer and building the engine with all forged ionternals and a reprogaramed ECU.:) With this setup all ricers will get...:ownedb:

Some pics for your injoyment.

Do I spy some Turbo GP parts? What is involved in using the 3.3 throttle body?

John,

Looks really good! Very neat and well built. Looking forward to hearing about the results after the test drive. :D

That's really a 3300 throttle body? Great turbo setup though!

Looks like 100% TGP parts to me. I should know since I owned two of them and took them apart numberous times. Also, that isn't a 3300 throttlebody. I would also look at a GT2871R as a turbo upgrade as this is what I suggested to the guy that bought my 5 speed TGP from me. He put down ~300 whp and 400 wtq with it at 16 psi IIRC. It still spooled as fast as the stock turbo too.

Looks good. I especially like the expansion flex joints on the crossover. I've tried and tried to find them in various sizes here in town - but all I can find are horribly overpriced things from performance stores. :(

On my 2.8 turbo I've tried several differnet things for expansion joints and found that a double-wall piece of flex pipe holds up pretty well. What you've got should hold up indefinitely!

On the 3.8 there is a graphite donut on one end that has some flexibility and so far has held up well.

One thing to remember.... Plug off that oxygen sensor hole in the turbo and install one in the downpipe instead. Firstoff, the pressure and temperature will be too high for a wideband system to function there when you program the ECU; and even with a stock O2 sensor - if (and when) the sensor head breaks off, it will go through the turbo. If in the downpipe, it will only blow out the tailpipe! :)

Looks like fun!

The stock flex joints in TGP crossovers always crack so replacement is a must since it's before the O2 sensor. 3.8s don't need flex joints because they run iron heads. I have yet to see a 3.8 turbo car with a flex joint and no one has any problems with cracking crossovers. Also, all TGPs ran the O2 sensor like that and I never heard of one breaking off and ruining the turbine. I do agree though that it's a terrible place for the O2 sensor so I would move it when upgrading to a bigger turbo(GT2871R). I would also make sure the new turbo has the NS111 turbine wheel. It's a nice wheel that will still spool lightning fast but will retain good high rpm flow.

Honestly I haven't seen one ruin the turbine but have seen some very neglected old N/A cars with the metal sheath gone off the sensor!

I'm not extremely familiar with Garrett parts. Turbonetics has a "F1" wheel that is supposed to do the same thing. It looks different than a standard Garret wheel. Best way I can describe it is the blades are taller near the center, and thicker at the top.

Most of the parts are TGP parts and the TB is a 3.1 sorry about that:kekeke:

Awesome! i've been looking into 3x00 swap and turbo for my 89 Celebrity, but i dont know anything about tuning the computer for the bigger injectors so i've been kinda scared to... love to hear more about the beast!

If you don't get to yours first, i will be installing a TGP / LG5-style turbo system on my 2.8 Ciera XC before long. I got the entire exhaust system and turbo from the JY. Will post pictures as the job progresses!

This looks really cool.
