I was reading up on tonglebeaks 3400 swap idea. I have a 3.3, and I would love to have the torquey 3800, but I dont, nor do I have the experience for an engine swap, nor the money. BUT, I became interested in swapping out the top end out of another car.
(Also I dont rememebr who said it, but I read on that thread somewhere about someone doign a 3.1 with a 3400 or 3500 swap)...
I am new to FWD and V6, so any help is appreciated
FYI, I dont much care about anything 75 and above, I want acceleration....lol...

Problem is that 3.3 and 3.8 are 90 degree V6. There aren't as many to chose from as the
2.8/3.1/3100/3400/3100 00+ /3400 00+
60 degree engines
And again, I'm not trying to be a dream squasher, BUT
I dont, nor do I have the experience for an engine swap, nor the money
This is going to be almost as difficult in my opinion. I would not recommend doing it on a daily driver. JMHO of course. I've never swapped an engine or top end.

Ok, well, I will keep this I guess as DD, but...I NEED to know, what all can I do to this thing to make it last forever? I know the usual routine maintenance and oil changes. But how about taking off the upper plenum, cleaning it out, new injectors, full system flush with synthetic oil. I want this thing to run better and last longer.. it is meh baby

Not sure how I can describe this for you.. But if you are looking for a bit more Grunt, and better throttle response it can be had..
This is not a great picture, but as you look into the runner it transitions right into the head... This engine is a Series II L36, so what you are looking through is the lower intake to the head... This Manifold is port matched to the heads.. This alone is good for a bit more port velocity which will give you a little more grunt, and throttle snappiness..

Now your 3300 will look just like my 3800, but your block will be a tad shorter as the 3300 is a short deck motor.. But this is what it will look like on the inside... 3 Ports in the center are the intake ports, the 2 outers are Coolant..

If the gaskets on your 3300 have never been changed they could be as bad as these... Most won't be, but usually there will be some damage to the gaskets..

Another problem is this...

With some of the Tubular designed manifolds which your 3300 has, we have found that some more than others had restrictions like this.. Lots of room for improvement there..
In a few 3800 Tuned Ports we have done some cleaning of the lower intake ports and kissed them a bit to allow them to flow better... As well we like to smooth out the edges of the intake ports on the heads to allow for a nice smooth transition for the air to flow through as opposed to the air hitting a step and thus creating turbulence as it enters the port..
Its all of the little things that will add up to a better running car... These cars were mass produced, so there was not much in the way of care to make sure all of the parts would be identical.... So a little cleaning here and there can make a nice little difference..
If you have never tore the top end of an engine down, I wouldn't recommend this job for you, unless you know an old gearhead... They are incredibly valuable for info.. You'll learn a lot, Trust me.. Its also important to keep the engine clean as possible..
Good Luck... Let us know if there is anything else we can answer:)

I wouldn't do a flush on the 3300... The 3800's and 3300 were quite clean motors and didn't beat the oil so 3000 mile oil changes would have kept it clean.. Just switch to the Synthetic and you should be good..
Yes you can take off the upper and clean it, but it shouldn't really be dirty as you have no EGR... Maybe a little mild porting and smoothing..
If the injectors are good leave them alone.... Possible get some slick 50 fuel system formula to help clean the injectors over time

It isn't worth switching to synthetic at 153k. Most engine wear has already occured, and lighter weight oils (and synthetics) tend to slip by the gaskets and leak.
The car won't last forever. You could replace the engine and tranny when they go bad, but you can't replace the body.
Take care of maitence then look for anything else that's bad. That and keep salt off of it is all you can really do.

well he could take of his intake off and have fun with a file. but yea intake work and exhuase work or ever just the does a lot. my friend used to drive a 84 toy with a new inch ;lager exhaust that car felt like a new car.
i wouldnt reomend getting in to building motor tell you had a couple a part and put on that works back to gether. there simple but you also need to think about what every part does.
building a motor isnt just slaping a hig lift cam and othe stuff together its making sure everything works together for max hp and tq gains ware you want them.......ecty end of rant
but intake and esaust work
for all who have never tor down and rebuilt a motor. and what to do so. go buy a used lawn mower/ somethnig with a small 1 or 2 clcder on it and have fun. if you breack it for some unknow resion you only out like 40-50 bucks and you time.
new brigs and stra motor have teflon cotted pistions...................nitrus time.........:) random

To the original poster, buy a repair manual and try out some simple tasks before you start taking it apart.
