For those of you that have or have had 18's (I know there's at least a couple), what size tires do you run? According to Discount Tire's comparison chart, a 225/40/18 is about the same dimensions overall as the common 225/50/16's that work well on an A-body. It makes sense that this size would fit and look proportional to the car, but will the short sidewall make for an uncomfortable ride over bumps? Cushy ride is certainly not a priority, but I wouldn't want to hit a pothole a feel like the wheel is being ripped off the car.

Andy,

I've never put on 18's, but I've heard that the more tire you have, the more it absorbs the ride. So, it might be a good idea to go halfway. Maybe 17's would provide that slightly bigger wheel look but retain a comfortable ride. I never could understand people that put on 20's or bigger. They might look neat, but I'm more inclined to go for a better ride over looks.

George, I agree completely, but I can get a good deal on a set of used 18's that I really like the design of. Every other set of wheels I find around here that are 17's are a design that I don't like at all. The 18's are a black painted 5-spoke with a machined lip, and they give a similar look as original black Eurosport VR wheels. They are also in like-new condition, but the tires are too big. They are a 235/50 (same size as a newer V8 Monte SS).

Try 225/40.

Andy,

I'm all for a good deal myself. :) I'm sure that you could find tires that will fit, but somehow can compensate for the thinness of the rubber. Tire technology has gotten amazing the past few years. You could always do other things to the suspension system to make up for the lack of absorption in the tires.

If I were in your situation, I'd take the chance on the rims and bring them to a place such as http://www.tirekingdom.com/?gclid=CIDbtM2up5wCFQZfswodNxkilQ, or tire barn- a place that specializes in tires of all brands... And ask them which tire you can get that will fit correctly, and have the best shock absorption.
