Second battery installation.

So today I spent bent over the enginebay, doing my best to destroy my back.

Ever since I bought the new more powerful battery for the car, I have had in mind to install the old (fully functioning) battery for additional safety (lesser chance of running out of electricity), and today I finally did it.

Below: This is the BEFORE picture. In the upper corner is the canister, to the right of it the overflow tank and under the canister (towards the radiator) is the police siren (the round bullet-like thing).

Below: This is the AFTER picture. Where the canister used to be, I have placed the 2nd battery. A snug-fit.

Below: This is the new placement of the canister (on the firewall, I used the opportunity to clean the filters in the bottom of it and put a new primary filter as well).

Did you isolate the 2 batteries from each other? Are they in Parallel or Series? Nice work on the canister mount what kind of contraption is that?

+ of secondary battery goes to + on primary battery. Negative of secondary battery hooked up with the body. That's a parallel setup. With a serial setup I would have 24 volts, and burn down everything electrical in the car.

The mounting of the canister is of course improvised. There was a ground connection (with a bolt) on the firewall, I used a plastic coated stainless steel wire, put a loop on it for the bolt to go through, and loops on both ends. One goes to the spring, the other loop goes through the eye of the other end of the spring and is then fastened to one of the bolts of the cabin ventilator.

Simple but functional.
