Of the two wires leading into the light socket, which one is the power?

I'm assuming it's the orange one. I just wanted to find out before I cut it up to use the test light if necessary.

Thanks,

J

Any A-body trunk light I've seen has only one wire going to it. As far as a ground...they are self grounded.

I just installed one in the '90 Ciera I just bought. For some reason,it didn't have one. I got a socket/assembly and 7mm screw from a j/y donor. Then I ran a wire, thru the wiring channel on the drivers side floor to the orange wire under the drivers seat.

If you see a black wire passing by in that area. A black wire powers the remote trunk release if you have one.

Thanks for your help.

On my 1994 Ciera with oem keyless, it has a trunk release complete w/ motor.

On my other 1994 Ciera without oem keyless, this one doesn't have trunk release motor or switch in the passengers compartment. The wiring is there, but no parts so Im assuming the car didnt come with that option. I have to manually open the trunk with the key.

I'm trying to find a constant 12v signal in the trunk of the second car. The same wire I tapped in the first car to wire some under the speaker deck neons for trunk lights worked for this (orange wire running to the oem trunk light). The same wire in the seond doesnt seem to have have constant 12v even though it runs directly to the oem trunk light (orange) along w/ a black wire...which worked before.

I've double checked my t-tap connections and my ground. Any other always on 12v wires in the trunk? I'm assuming the orange is the accessory wire.

How about under the rear bench seat?

The orange wire and the non stripped black wire (short one) went to the oem trunk light. The stripped black wire (thicker guage) had a spade terminal on it and was just sitting there. After looking at the switch (or lack thereof)in the glove box there seems nothing is connecting that trunk motor circuit to the fuse box period. I guess thats why there is no power to the thicker gauge black wire:werd:. This still doesn't explain why I can't tap power from one of the other two thinner wires, as the trunk light worked before I removed the bulb and snipped them:sad:. I don't plan on using that light again, I just wanted to tap into them farther down (see second pic) and use some neons for the trunk lights.

I tapped both of these wires and tried to complete the circuit trying each separately as a source for power. Nothing doing for each one :(.

Any ideas?

That orange wire going to the trunk light should have constant power with a micro/mercury switch in the socket. You open the trunk....the light comes on.

How are you testing it for power? A test light,or the neons? Maybe something is up with the neons.

The trunk light worked before you snipped the orange wire? If so,the trunk light is your test light showing you it has constant.

Then again,GM changed some things in the '94-96's. Things that were constant in the '93-earlier ones.
