Howdy gents. I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience putting in shift kits from Superior(51C01) and Transgo (SK125c) into thier high mileage 125c. Both of these are marketed as "improvers/fixes" as opposed to performanace kits. Are they the same? Should I install both? Vehicle is an '87 Cutlass Ciera.

Many Thx!

These transmission are already known for thier quick firm shifts. The fix it kits like that would be updates the transmission has overgone over its years of production. As an example the 4T60's had alot of revised springs and balls over the years that caused stange clunks or harsh as hell downshifts for no reason. So yes installing these kits would probably prevent or fix any common problems. If your wanting to run more power through them i dont know if anybody makes a HD kit for them or not

Thanks Prospeeder! I'm not looking for performance or necessarily harder shifts but more so extending the life. Given the age, number of miles on the car and extreme expense to replace the tranny I just want to minimize wear to the extent possible and incorporate any design improvements beyond the model year of the vehicle.

Keep the fluid and filter changed every 30k and youll be fine! DO NOT neglect fluid changes, or the trans will just take a shit

You should talk to some Fiero guys. Lots of them like to use their stock 125 behind V8s and such, and have them built to handle the massive amounts of torque. Pennock's Fiero Forum. (http://www.fiero.nl/cgi-bin/fiero/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true)

...high mileage 125C?

If I find that one of my cars is missing it's tranny,I guess I'll know who's got it.
