Hi havent had time to properly introduce myself, but I need some help getting a new power steering belt on. Car is an 86 oldsmobile ciera, 2.5
I took the nut on the back of the PS pump that looked like it would make it move. but it still wouldn't budge, after repeated pounding. Didn't want to take the pump off, plus I don't know how I would tighten it. I would try and "kick start" it on, but I really don't want to chew up my new $15 belt....
What am I doing wrong!
Thanks!

Look on the back of the pump. It's not uncommon for GM to had a extra fastener back there.

GM always had at least 2 bolts to loosen, often there are 3.

Does the sub-frame need to come off, there is NO room... the pulleys are all in the way.

Keep looking, there's got to be someplace to loosen that thing, else someone put the wrong belt on the car.

I'm not sure about the 2.5L but if it has a v belt set up, I know the GM power steering pumps I've owned with a V belt setup had a bolt that needed to be loosened between the pulley and the pump. You can access it through one of the circular holes on the pulley.

if its a serpentine drive, the tensioner pulley (the wheel pulley with nothing else other than a bracket holding it down) should have a 1/2 drive or 3/8 drive hole for a breaker bar to pull it since hte bracket its on is springloaded....if its a V belt, with like 2 or 3 belts, then the PS bracket have 2 or 3 bolts, accesible through the pulley's holes...(your pulley should have 3-4 holes around the center....)
