I have an '88 pontiac 6000, it has a 3100 engine out of a '99 Buick Regal and has a 3400 top end and still runs on the factory 2.8 computer. I am curious, what would be needed to swap in a 3800 series2 S/C engine. I am highly considering about doing this swap and any tips would really help.
thanks.

How? How does the old 2.8 computer run this setup? Seems like there are more things that an older comuter wont be compatible with. Let us in on more info please!

It just doesn't make use of the SFI. Most, if not all of the connectors for sensors and such are the same. Some wires need lengthened on the factory MPFI harness also.
Blue6000se, I don't know exactly what's involved in the swap other than mounting brackets.
What did you use for throttle linkage and cable? What tranny do you have?

Do you have anything to add to this?

Wow so many questions to answer, the car was actually my friends which started out with the 2.8l that he retired after alot miles. He got the whole engine from the warranty room at his work from a 99 century. He decided to try using the 2.8l computer because he wanted to use the same dash, he told me that it took about a month to sort out all the wiring.
- For the transmission i believe that it is still the 3-speed auto
- The throttle cables look to be off of a 3.4 i'm not sure.
For anybody that has done a 3800 series2 S/C engine swap please reply back.
thanks

anyone have any advice for this? id like to do an l67 swap too
The reading up that i have done seems to say thay the 3.8 pcm needs to be used to swap in the l67 supercharged 3.8.

i want to stroke an l67 to 4.3L, forged internals, mild cam, 4t65ed trans (unless someone can recommend a stronger trans?) beefed up front axles grand national turbo (like the one used on the gnx) i would imagine those mods would push around 500whp (i know im omitting alot of other things like fuel injectors and stuff)

2,000. the kit itself is worth more than that. plus its balanced, installed in a L67 block with all the machine work done.

Wow, that sounds like a great deal for someone! So it's basically an assembled short block then?

yep, that engine made a LOT of torque. with 14psi, i would assume 500+ ft. lbs. i really wanna put that engine in this car, that would make for the sleeper of the decade.

i might be buying a mid 90's buick with the 3.8 in and swapping it over, that would make the car decently quick.

This thread has me seriously aroused! How hard is it to do a swap like this??? Something I could figure out on my own?? I plan on starting to save up for a new motor for my 86 Eurosport coupe towards the end of this year. (runs fine now, but starting to get a little tired) It seems to me that it would make more sense to save up $$ towards an L67 instead of another 2.5 Iron Duke!

to do this swap you would need a very good understanding of basic mechanics and you must have the appropriate tools and parts, there are some custom elements to it and alot of on the fly changes to fit different applications

Ahaha, yeah I still exist.. And yes the 6000 is still around.. Not at this time of year tho its in storage for the snow.
As for the swap, its possible.. And there are a lot of little small things that will eventually add up to a lot of money.. Sure you can hack one in there but for how long it will last, is all in your hands..

Such a cryptic message! What are these "little small things". I'm picking up a 6000 STE in a week or so, and it looks just right for a L67! From what i can tell it's relatively straight forward.
