View Full Version : '94 Cutlass Cruiser -- disappearing oil

This is another car I have in addition to my '95. This one has been using about a quart of oil every 1000 miles since I got it. It only had 49,000 mi. on it when I got it. It now has around 80,000. I do not see any evidence of leaks, it does not smoke, and I do not see any evidence of coolant contamination of the oil. However, the coolant level might also be dropping, not sure. If it is, it's slow. I had an intake gasket go in both my '95 Cutlass Cruiser and my '94 Century, but both times there were obvious symptoms and they got real bad real fast. This is different, besides the rapid use of oil I see no symptoms. Any ideas? Thanks!

3100 right? Check the area where the distributor was on the older models (under the throttle body) to see if there is oil puddling up there. The o-ring seal for the oil pump drive is known to become brittle and leak like crazy.

Ditto,
NAPA # for the o-ring is 727-2214. Also won't hurt to put on a paper gasket. If your parts store can't find the right one, just tell them to get you one for a small block chevy distributor, it'll fit.

Drive it....add oil...minor pia...no oil spots means its going via rings most likely.
Peanuts...oil is cheap...change it and the filter every three thousand, or less...
