I have a 1990 Cutlass Ciera with 99,666 miles and the 3.3 litre V6 engine. The car was in my yard and i was sitting in it with the key on but the engine off one night smoking a cigarette and listening to the radio. At one point the lights on the radio got dim and i stepped on the brake pedal by accident as i was trying to move around in the car. Once i stepped on the brake pedal the car shut off on me. I figured the battery propably was dead so a couple of days later i bring out the charger and tried charging it. As it was charging i tried starting it and then i was gonna let it run for a little. Once it would start cranking after about 5-10 seconds later it would die out and all the lights in the cluster would shut off. I took the battery out of the car and took it inside to charge fully. The next day after the battery is fully charged i go to put it in the car so i can start it and see if everything is ok. I connect the positive terminal cable to the battery and after that i go to connect the negative terminal cable and once contact from the cable to the negative battery terminal occurs sparks fly and the engine starts cranking on it's own without the key in the ignition and without the connector behind the windsheild washer fluid container plugged in. :dunno: I don't know what to do and i need to get that car running because my other car which is a 1977 Chevy Caprice Classic has no brakes. It's the only car i have to get around and do what i have to do. If anyone has any clue or idea of what the problem is please message me. It is crucial that i get this car running because it is my first car and at the moment like i said it's what gets me around.
Thank You.

check the fuel presser (there a cap on the fuel rail) i would turn the key to the on position and then presser the valve on the fuel rail if it shoots like 3 feet i would say your good for presser.
as for the starter the solenoids have been known to do that so check so take it down to napa or auto zone and have it tested.
thats what i would do to start with. but I'm not 3300 expert in fact i know jack squat about them

Hows the key in the ignition lock moving? Not sticking? Could be a bad ignition switch too, but dont start there.
If it cranks when you connect the battery the solenoid may be bad. Also look to see if there happens to be any stray metal objects jumping the positive cable to the start terminal.
Remove starter and bring it to autozone. Dont bother with fuel pressure until you can get the engine to crank properly.
Edit: Oh, and be sure terminals on the starter/solenoid are tight.

I bet your fuse-links have shorted out at the starter. They are in the vicinity of the positive battery cable connection at the starter. I've seen them become bare copper wire (looked like the insulation had shrunk and drawn back). They can touch the starter "S" terminal and actuate the starter at random. This will destroy many things including the starter, battery, and possibly melt some wiring.
If the starter remains engaged with the engine running, the battery will be depleted in spite of the alternator's best effort to keep it up, so everything will dim down and die off.
Could be a welded solenoid contact, shorted-out ignition switch, or the fuse links.
Good luck!
