View Full Version : Brake Light Turns "ON" On Hard Left Turns

I like curves....

I don't slow down for curves much...

I rarely use the brake on curves....

So, I'm on the free way a few weeks ago, and I felt like taking the cloverleaf pretty hard (FE-1 suspension and all). I was really pushing it as the car developed a shimmy (I was doing something like 70 on this wide cloverleaf). I look down and my "Brake" light is lit.

Thing is...I didn't touch the brake pedal! It went out after a minute or so. Kinda scary I thought to myself.

Last weekend it happened again on a cloverleaf, but I wasn't pushing it nearly so hard.

This was in my '95 Century. Anyone have any clues? The ABS works fine. The brakes work fine too, except that I've noticed a noise on the righthand front when braking hard with the wheels turned. I'm thinking I should un-bolt the wheel to take a look, but I didn't see anything last time when put the allow rims on.

Clues anyone?

Thanks,
Ken T.

is there a low break fluid sensor in these cars? taking a turn that hard could pull the fluid away from that sensor.

Yeah, low brake fluid. Even if it doesn't look low top it off, had the same thing happen to me last year lol I was like WTF.

If its low you may be ready for some new pads, as the pads wear the piston comes out more and more fluid is needed, thus the level drop

If it is low you might also want to just bleed them if you haven't, While low it is probably sucking in water which is bad. Did most of them before the race. One of the bleaders rusted into some unknown mystery size so didn't want to break it days before the race. It was amazing the difference in color between the new fluid and what was in there also the pedal became much firmer.

x2 on what Prospeeder said, if the pads are low you should change the pads before adding fluid, otherwise when you go to change the pads the fluid will overflow the resivour and spill onto the paint under the hood... and paint doesn't like brake fluid. Sorry I was going to mention it earlier but my mind amtraked.

Hmmm. I think I'll pull the wheel to take a look. The pedal feels good...but you never know. I'll check it on Saturday to see what's up.

RESOLVED.

It started to getting worse, so I looked at it. It was in fact low fluid in the master cylinder. The light only came on on hard left turns because the sensor was on the left side of the master cylinder!

Thanks everyone.
