So, I was driving home w/ my friend the other night and went to change the station on the radio. While he was mid turn of the dial it cut out and went to static. The clock display also cut out.

After getting home, I wanted to see if anything else decided to go with it and I noticed that my dome light, trunk light, cig lighter, and my horn all now don't work...

I'm thinking it's a fuse, but if it was a fuse would I still be able to turn my radio on and get static? If it is, any idea which one it is? I almost broke my neck trying to see down there. lol

It's a fuse for sure lol. I think it's a 20amp that controls it. In my ciera's fuse box, it's the 3rd fuse down on the left column.

Dont know its location in the fuse box, but its definetly a fuse. The hard way is to pull each fuse out, and check them one by one. The easy way to do it is to get a circuit light. They have a gator clip on one end, a long peice of wire, and a screwdriver type handle and tip. With your ignition on, you have the gator clipped to a good ground, and go thru each fuse. Touch the ends to both sides of the fuse, and they should both light up. If one does, and the other doesnt, pull it and visually check it. Good luck...

I blew 3 fuses when I kept on trying to plug an fm transmitter into the lighter port. Turned out there was a screw in there that decided to short everything out >_>

So my lighter may have been what blew it? I did just use it a few moments before?

Also, how does the loose change blow a fuse? Does it fall behind the ashtray onto the back of the fuse box?

Looks like I'll be checking fuses tomorrow. :)

I keep screws in my ashtray. I had the lighter pulled out, leaving the port exposed, so screws could find there way into the port. Then when I try to plug something into the port, a nice little short occurs and pops the fuse.

Ah, gotcha. I gotta keep that in mind. I use my tray as storage too. :P

I think it the fuse got popped because the lighter got stuck in.

In anycase, I went to autobarn and picked up a new fuse and replaced the one I found to be broken and everything is working again!

I didn't know when I first looked at it that the fuses were on a hinge so you can swing them forward to see them. It was a lot easier working with them after I saw that.

Thanks everyone!

That happened to my car also, since I dont use the lighter for anything I disconnected it and replaced the fuse.

When I bought my Red STE it had the infamous penny in the lighter too.

Can cause headaches.
