View Full Version : Choke problem on 2.8L V6 (VIN X)

I tried to figure it out myself, but still can't understand some things.
I think that my choke doesn't fully close because of missing rod or even a whole
secondary side vacuum break. I can see two holes for attaching this secondary
side break, but the book says that there are models with only one vacuum break,
so maybe my carb is one of this models. Anyway, there are some empty places for
the rods on the choke lever and I can close the choke manually, but I can't see
anything that could close it automatically (in mechanic or electric way).

Please look at the photo and tell me if you know which parts I really need to
normal choke operations? Must this carb has secondary side vacuum or not?

Sorry for poor quality. Thanks for any help.

He Alex, glad to see you made it over. Still not much help on the Carb E2SE cars, but there are a couple guys here that are really good with them.

I don't see the spring for the automatic choke at all, it looks like someone tore it all off the car...

Not sure if this pic will help but it looks like you should be visiting a wrecking yard and grabbing a carb for parts.

My '86 Cherokee had one of these carbs on it and the previous, previous owner pulled the auto choke and installed a manual conversion kit, I had all kinds of problems keeping things in order, choke would close on its own, wouldn't open all the way etc.

There are some problems 'cause here in Russia it is really hard to find another a-body, especially with the V6 and carb on it. I tried to find rods for the choke on ebay etc, but it seems nobody sells it separately. We have no US-style junkyards :) where I can find something for my car. I will try to call some local services for american auto, but I don't think I can find another carb. I need to be very lucky.

And another problem is that I can't understand how much vacuum breaks should be on my carb - only primary or secondary too. Now, as I realize, I don't have vacuum breaks at all. Exploded views and service manuals for Rochester E2SE carbs say that there a lot of modifications with hot air choke or electric choke, with one or two vacuum breaks. I am confused, even if I will decide to buy new carb, I still don't get which one exactly to buy.

P.s. Is there any hope that if I couldn't find another carb some kind guy from this forum can help me to find missing parts (I mean rods, 'cause new vacuum breaks I can buy by myself on Rockauto or on ebay) in U.S. and send it to me by USPS?

I can't tell specifically either, I'm far from a pro with these dumb little carbs and I can't even go look at the Jeep because I just started pulling parts off and tossing them in the garbage when I realized why it ran crappier then normal...

Can we get a picture of the other side of the carb too? Sounds like you have as much trouble finding parts for that car as I do with my here for my Lada Nivas...

Edit... I have been browsing E-bay and can't seem to find any of these carbs on there. I did find a kit to convert to a Webber 38DGES though.

I wonder how much it could cost to ship a carb to Russia?

Sometimes it isn't too bad. Can't hurt to check. I rebuilt carb might be the answer.

try looking for Isuzu Troopers from the 80s if you know any Japanophiles around (means someone loves Japanese stuff) since they got the same engine and carb for the v6 models

I'll try to take good quality pictures of my carb on weekend.
Shipping to Russia could cost about $30-50, I think. Standard price is $13 for 1 kg. I just don't know exactly how much a carburetor weights.

Yesterday I called local old-GM service and they told me they have used carb from Pontiac 6000 for about $130. Maybe it fits my needs.

'84 6000, how and why you've bought Lada Nivas in Canada? I really surprised that you have it.
Can I see some pictures of them, please? =)

1kg is 2.2 imperial pounds; a 2se Varajet II carb from a 2.8L, a 2.5L iron duke (export n canada i think) should not weigh more than 2kgs

As long as it isn't one that has electronic mixture control it will fit fine. If it is the electronic carb, you can always rob parts to fix what you have.

On the subject of my Ladas, They were sold in Canada until the mid to late 90's, I have 3 now, an '83, a '92 and a '93.(Used to have 7 ranging from '1981-1993 as well as a '84ish 2105) All 3 are in various states of teardown right now, I'm trying to build the '92 into one I can drive. The only thing stopping me from even touching them at this point is the module for the Electronic ignition. I'll have to order one from the UK probably.

I will try and get pics posted in Off Topic over the holidays.

I am not sure if this is the correct Carb or not. But the guy does ship anywhere. And it looks decently priced, rebuilt/new Carb. Its a E2SE.
