i just had a battery light illuminate, got a 1990 Buick Century 2.5 A/C/, P/S, C/C all the bells and whistles, although she is ugly as can be

Take it to a parts store (advance or autozone) and have them test the battery & alternator.
Does it come on when you are running alot of electrical things (headlights, aftermarket stereo, ect...)?
I'll bet your alternator is going, but without more info who knows.

Altenator or insufficient tension on the belt. If you pay attention, you may notice lamps that are slightly dimmer, or power windows a touch slower.
Voltmeter would verify this. Be aware-I've seen alts that charge cold but don't charge when hot.
