I went for a drive today and spotted a s10.
It has 133,000 miles on in, Its the newere body style so it was made in 94 and up Im guessing its a 95 or 96.
The plates say expires 3-08 so its has sat a year or more.
There is rust on the rockers and some one the bed wheel wells. Otherwise the paint is nice.
1.They put a 2.2 I4 and a 4.3, were they good motors?
2. What should I give for this if it needs a motor or tranny? Im guessing $200

I have seen people have something like a 95 escort with a blown motor, then I call and find they want $600 for it, Il tell them NO! its a junk car so Im going to give you junk price.

Sounds pretty rusty for a second gen. Motor, options and overall condition play the biggest role in price. No way to guess by your description.

What do you mean "They put..." those two engines? Are both included, or were you asking ot confirm that those were the two available engines for that year? I don't really have any input on the 2.2L as I haven't heard bad nor good about them, nor have I had any experience with them, but as for the 4.3L, it's good engine as far as reliability (basically a SBC V8 with a couple cylinders dropped off it), but don't expect to get anything respectable for gas mileage. Most 4.3 owners report how much of a gas hog those engines are.

My father owns a 97 Blazer (4.3), and a 99 sonoma (2.2), and both have been great. The sonoma has got 150k miles on it, and in his 4 years of ownership, hes only had to replace an alternator. The blazer needed a little front end work, but the motor has given no problems at all. And its got 170k miles on it.

my Grandma has a 94 4.3 Blazer, she got with very low miles, and she took care of it, always changed the oil and drove it very nice. It up and threw a rod out of no where climbing a hill at 70k, oil pressure was good, oil level was full. Those 4.3s are known to just toss the bottom end.

Dude...not to sound harsh but try getting a vehicle that runs. If you couldn't afford to get the Ciera running properly how are you going to get another P.O.S. going?

If driven fairly easy, mine is capable of the upper 20's on the highway. It's a 5 speed though, most are automatics.

Good point.

I've owned two 2.2 I4's in my two S-10's. If you want great fuel economy and reliability, they do well. My current S-10 is a 2001 with 126,000. The engine has been perfect, no repairs needed for anything. Mated with a 5 spd., I get 22 city, and just shy of 29 on the highway. Uses absolutely no oil.

Having said all that, it's still a 4 cyl. power plant, and if you expect it to perform like a V6, it will disappoint you,and if you put your foot in it all the time, and drive too fast with the 4.11 gears that come with the ext. A/C S-10's, the gas mileage will go down too.

But for a daily driver, treated with a modicum of respect, it's a good motor.

if its a 4.3 and the engine is good i would say go for it

i love the 4.3
especially if it has the tbi injection

you gain a little hp with the multiport and central injection setups
but they are not tinker freindly
they are picky and hard to work on

as for the 2.2
its a dog
but its a work horse

i love the 4.3 i own 2
one that was worth swaping into my blazer when the s10 was scrapped
