Why does it have to be non-tilt... if you were going to replace the whole thing wouldnt the column hookup still be the same... my dad pulled the not tilt steering out of out 86 brown astro and put it in our 86 blue and silver which had tilt....

that could work.
i just hate replacing the whole column, its still good. the plastic housing that holds the ignition lock and turn signal switch is busted up. broken keys and hammers never end well! of course you cant get pieces for a solid column, they only sell parts for tilt columns.

do you happen to know if steering columns from other cars are compatible with our cars? i would assume any fwd gm?

Well I have tilt but the column looks identical to my 93 Bonneville and similar to my truck and astro vans... I would start looking through all the gms in the yard... its true that you would waste your column, however the column w/ tilt is about to he wasted thats sitting in the junkyard once it gets crushed... and you get the option vof tilt, which is in nice with my bad leg

i was able to rebuild mine with parts i grabbed off of a S-10, but i noticed the way the racks mount up under the dash/length is completely different. i just wonder if there is a column that would bolt-in but is from a different chassis.

i tried that originally, but that is for a tilt column. mine is the not so standard- standard column without tilt. they make no parts for it anymore. i got it going again with parts from an S-10, but now the wiper switch went bad so i have to rip it apart all over again. gotta love it. i was lucky to even find a switch, rock auto had two left in stock, and the S-10 switch does not work on my car. i think next time, i will switch the whole column out for the tilt.
