Looking to buy a 3.33 gearset for a '96 4T60-E. Buying a '96 GP in a few weeks, and don't want to deal with the 2.84 set I think it has.

IIRC it's not just the differential gears that make up the ratio, it's those gears plus the drive/driven chain sprokets in the transmission that all come together in the transmission to make your "final drive ratio"

The final drive has it's own ratio, then there is the chain ratio too. Both combined make for the overall ratio. I think.

I have a few stashed, but I don't remember what ratios they were. How do you tell by looking at them?

Yeah, I need both the diff and the chain set. I had a spreadsheet one time that showed all the combos, but can't find it now.

Strange that the 96 GP doesn't have the 3.33 ratio, Luke's cutlass supreme with the 4t60-E has a 3.33

Nah, this is a base 3100 with a column shift.... I'm certain it has 2.84 because it has no power on takeoff, but goes like stink on the highway.

His is a base 3100 too, but it has console shift. If you've got the VIN number and you use this http://www.compnine.com/vid.php you can find the FDR that came in it new.

Just had a chance to check it when they were over here.... F17... 2.84. Damn.

A 2.84 trans has a 35:35 chain ratio, same as a 3.06 or 3.33 trans. So, you only need a 3.33 diff and sun gear with the correct thread pitch and direction. There were 3 different pitch/direction combos from 92-97.
