View Full Version : The murdering headliner from hell.

The Velcro pads on the rear of my headliner became unglued. I have used
carpet glue
contact cement
Velcro Pads
Super Glue
Goop (which almost sent me to the ER from the fumes)
to hold it up. Nothing will bond vinyl (the Velcro Pads) to the foam part of the headliner. I dont wont to spend $$$ on space age weld-it-all. So I am wondering how hard would it be to take another ciera headliner and place it in mine?

Everything it looks like you have to take off-you have to take off. Anything that touches the headliner goes.

So, visors, pillar(s) trim.. Not that bad actually. Dome light too. It has little circle clips that just pull off.

what would one cost at a jy?

My local JY wants 15.

If they qoute a price that seems too steep, point out that its 19+ year old fabric and that it may not even stay together.

so whats the chance another one will be good?

theres some sort of glue called weld-bond its supoosed to glue rocks together i might try some.

You can tell if it will be good. If its not sagging or drooping its good. I was just suggesting that you bullshit them a little.

This is a few months old, so I hope no one gets upset...

Can't you just buy a section of similar material at a craft/cloth store? Then lightly sand the adhesive off of the card board (or is it wood, I haven't messed with it yet) to get a clean bonding surface. I was told there is a spray on adhesive at the parts store especially for the lining, but that removing the old adhesive is key to sticking. ... But that was coming from a constantly-drunk-mechanic.

They do make a stray on adhesive, but it is not the best thing to use. The best stuff is brush on "Contact Adhesive". You can buy it at any local hardware store & will far outlast the spray on stuff.
