My steering wheel column has some how broken and is loose, although it works, you can move the steering wheel (along with the column) in any direction.

My question is, I have 2 cars, one is for parts, and I would like to replace the broken column with the working one, What do I need to do to get this done?

i havent done this on you car but you will need to remove the lower dash pieces tell you can reach the a bracket that wraps around the under side ff the comlum. at hte point you could be able to drop the comeum in to your lap and un do all the wiring. after that you need to a nut that is on the rack (which sould be in side the car with htis lose you shoudl be able to give the colum a good hard yank and it could come out.

What you are describing sounds like a common GM problem and is fixable by partially taking the column apart tightening the bowl screws. They work loose over time, especially if you hang on the wheel getting in and out of the car.

thank you guys, I will go to the junkyard and attempt to remove one. This car was actualy broken into and the the section of the column just under hte tilt is completely broken, the wheel just kind of hangs there.

Switch turn signal lever as needed.

Assuming it's a floor shift, that's the interchange.

Any clue as to why only those years fit?

It was a success!

Thank you all for your input, Although even the junkyard told me it woudlnt fit, I used a steering column from a 87 S/E with floor shift, and it worked perfectly. I dont have any steering wheel radio controls anymore, but thats okay because I have an aftermarket deck.

I am using the brown wheel temporarily due to the fact that I am not putting my old one on, and am saving money for a nicer one!
