    Reading OBD II Codes

    OBD II (OnBoard Diagnostics II) is the type of engine computer code that is in cars from 1996 and later. Earlier car computers used OBD I. The difference here is that while you can always short out two terminals and get the Check Engine Light (Service Engine Soon light or SES light) to blink on an OBD I computer-controlled car, you need a scanner tool and the know-how to read an OBD II system. Here are some resources that may be helpful for you to do this: You can get an OBD II scanner from many auto parts stores, both online and offline. There are also some for PC computers.
