High volume oil pump

With a stock capacity pan, I do not recommend a high volume oil pump. The reason is, if the engine gets over a quart low and you are buzzing on down the interstate at a high rate of speed, it is possible for the oil pump to evacuate the crankcase of oil and starve the engine of oil.

I’ve had several 87-90 2.8/3.1 engines and never had oil pump problems. Some over 300k like my 89 Celebrity. So I would think the factory one would be just fine.

High volume oil pump
Hey everyone,
I was looking at oil pumps on rock auto. There are standard and high volume oil pumps. Any opinions on whether upgrading to a high volume pump is beneficial? More is better? Or just use what the car has which I guess would be a regular one. No factory oil cooler, don't plan on adding one. Conservative driver here. Thanks
