A new A in the family

Well after MUCH searching and looking at local cars, I found exactly what I was looking for. I needed a car for my oldest son who is starting school this fall at a local community college. This will be his first car, so I didn't want to get anything too awful nice as he will probably bang it up a little. But it needs to be reliable and easy to work on and cheap to maintain. I found the perfect candidate.
An 87 4-door Pontiac 6000LE. 73,000 miles. Tech 4 engine, automatic, cold AC, Full guage package(even has the tach!). Great overall condition and it has the smoothest and quietest tech 4 I think I have ever heard. It, of course, was an elderly womans car who got her liscence taken away and the kids sold the car. It has a little rust and the door, and the trim strips are in poor shape, needs a muffler, and a drivers side headlite. The hood is banged up over the lite and the fender is twealked around the lite also. She must have hit something, but not very hard.

So I'm on the hunt for a driver side headlight. Anybody got one?

Looks pretty good, except the wheels/tires just scream "granny car". I haven't seen any of those headlights in a JY for quite a while, at least none that I have paid any attention too.

Hi Jeff, I really like Wally's U-Pull-It salvage yard. I think they have a 6000 wagon, maybe more than that, and can pull and ship to you.

Excellent first car. Iron Duke means there shouldn't be any law enforcement-related trouble. And damn, it looks good. I can't see why anyone would order all those options with the four cylinder though. Did the woman buy it new or something?

That's probably because a majority of facelifted 6000s were optioned with the fog lights.

Very nice for a first car. Your son's lucky. My 1st car "off the road, in the woods" when I was 12, was a 1981 Citation that lasted only 2 or 3 months before engine died.

1st car actually on the road at 16 was a 1981 VW Jetta that was so rusted that it split in half when I went over train tracks. (It did that 4 months after I bought it for $350) LOL

looks pretty decent! i dont mind the wire hubcaps/white stripe combo...

I'd rather drive a cobbled together rustbucket Ford than a brand new Chrysler anyday.

I don't think you said how much you paid for it...? Looks good though, all the damage outside of the headlight looks to be really light and superficial. Congrats on the find

A regular 6000 headlamp should be the same, just withouth the foglight, just swap the light adjuster assembly, if you even need to do that.

I paid 1100 bucks for it. I paid 600 and my son had 500 saved up. After weeks of searching out what was available for around a grand, it turned out to be far, far better than any car I had looked at. I saw a LOT of "it has low miles", only to see the odometers at 140K +. And a LOT of total rust buckets. A thousand dollars just does not get you much anymore. Gawd, how I hate looking for a good car.

I wondered if one of the foglite setups would be the same with the foglite removed.

1100 isn't bad at all for the condition and mileage, plus you'll be setting up another generation of a-body fans in your family

My blue 6000 had fog lights, and it looked to me that it had one assembly per side.
