I have that same Haynes manual....works well for the common stuff and repairs but for in-depth stuff and diagnosis I have the FSM for that task.

Today, with the Metra GM radio dash install kit, I replaced the one I gotten from Walmart and put in the face that is more flush with the rest of the panel. I do admit, it looks much better without the radio sticking out so much as it did before. Here's the pic, and know its not the best quality since it was taken from my phone.

Replaced the thermostat and accidentaly broke the thin molded plastic vacuum tube to distributor advance. Fixed it with the short hose, but still not happy about it.
Anybody know how and where to find the new tube? Is this it?

I broke down and ordered an ACDelco speedometer cable today.
I bought a cheap one from Autozone that is too long (101"). The extra length caused unfavorable routing that is too kinked causing the needle to vibrate like crazy.
My only other option with the cheap cable was to have it run across the top of the intake and making it more straight but hideously ugly by running on top of the engine!
The ACDelco one piece (they stopped making 2 piece replacement cables) is the same length as my factory two piece cable was, a little over 83 inches.
I found another aftermarket cable that runs 80", but at this point I figured I would just spend the extra $19 and get the right part!
My original cable's core (the lower end that goes into the tranny) twisted up and died thanx to the cold weather and lack of lubrication. It made such a "racket" right before it happened, you couldn't even hear the radio over it!Last edited by babyivan; 02-27-2013, 06:19 AM.

Also had an overheating and heater blowing cold air for almost two months. I thought I got some air pocket in my heater or stuck thermostat, or something else. Apparently the water pump fell apart inside. Replaced it with the new one from Cardone, driving for a month already with no heater/cooling issues.

Lol. Looked at it as I moved the beetle and squeezed the truck out. Had to move a tree for our church and I just drove ol gertie strait to work... the century can use a rest, I put more miles this month than it got in the last three years!
Now that I think about it I did take the huge picture frame I'm going to convert to a light fixture out of the backseat and clean her out a littleRoads.... Where we're going, we don't need roads.

What did I do today? Finally decided to have the a/c clutch replaced. I attempted to remove the old one awhile back using a brand new puller from the parts store tool rental. Well, the clutch threads pulled the threads on the puller completely off. After that fiasco, it had no working a/c for about 2 years. I loaned the car to my sister due to her GP being in the shop for an airbag problem. She made an urgent suggestion that I have the clutch "taken care of, post haste". Should be about $60 to R&R the clutch. Not bad.Sold June 2015
