NEW 1990 Lumina APV at Lambrecht Chevrolet auction

So whoever bought the car has a $2000.00 paint job to schedule in the near future. He is also going to have to take a look at the rust on the underbody since the car sat in a field for 20 years.

A low mile southern USA dustbuster would have been a MUCH better buy, ready to drive for $3000 or less.

$6000.00 was a foolish bid on this vehicle.

93cent, that's not protective film. That's the paint has been worn off & the white plastic panel is showing. The silver is so oxidized from neglect it needs a paint job. Silver is one of those colors just like light met. blue that really needs to be taken care of to make it last. Yes I'm sure it had clearcoat, but clear needs to be waxed in order to last just like the color. Remember some of the 80's-90's Chryslers with the clearcoat peeling? Hardly anybody cares to wax a car anymore.

Yep, under that dust it was in showroom new condition, except for a falling headliner. I would have loved to have it.

The car had been neglected in oudoor "storage" for over 20 years (by the looks of it).

I think the APV was actually stored indoors based on the dust accumulation on the horizontal surfaces. The rear hatch door appears to have clear protective film on it. It was probably brought outside for the auction.

There are not many low mileage (no mileage), never licensed, factory protective wrapped APVs around. It's a low cost investment for a collector.

Here's an example of what I mean: 1981 Buick Riviera DIESEL with 16,000 miles, a Florida Car - just sold on eBay for less than $2400.00 Take a look, it's a beautiful car.

$6000 was a ridiculously STUPID bid

dang, i paid $1500 for mine. looks just like it except my trim strip is red. and i didn't get that heavy coating of dust. and my headliner and seats are better.

As I mentioned above, the hysteria surrounding this particular collection of cars was going to drive up prices far beyond actual values. The car had been neglected in oudoor "storage" for over 20 years (by the looks of it). That means dried out plastics becoming brittle, worn out paint, cracked seals, etc...

For far less than $6000 I've seen nice, really low-mileage, GM and other American made vehicles selling on eBay that are MINT - new tires, well-maintained, no repairs necessary, and under 20,000 miles.

This minivan, on the other hand, won't be worth $6000 even after the interior is repaired, and it is repainted, and the tires are replaced, and it is thoroughly detailed.

I'm sorry for the new owner. What a waste of money. $1500 should have been top bid. $4500 in paint, restoration and general repairs comes next - so now its a $10,500 23 year old minivan with no safety equipment except seat belts.

This auction isnt too far from me, and I honestly thought about going to bid specifically on this car.....just had a baby last week though so my time is full up!!

Two things:
-"New" only means that it has never been registered. Who knows what kind of mechanical condition it's in.
-1990 is 3.1/3 speed only. Not high on my list of desirable engine/trans combinations.

Jay, Never buy a vehicle sight unseen - look it over in person or have someone do that for you. Otherwise only from a trusted dealer who is licensed and has done a full inspection with full report including carfax report.

These are NOT "new" vehicles. Many of these cars have been neglected, benign neglect, but certainly not museum-quality care. The hysteria surrounding this auction is what the auctioneers are counting on to drive up prices to unjustified levels. My advice - take your time and the right dust buster APV van will present itself to you at the right time. And at a much lower price.
