Citation II ?

Nothing different about them, it's what they were all called in 1984-85.

I wondered about that. I was thinking it was one of GM's famous last year changes, but couldn't remember for sure.

Yeah that was weird. Only GM did that, even in Corvettes.

One in a yard near me. Never did see many, but remember them new on the lot. I see it still has the goofy tray/console in the middle of the bench seat.

I thought they added some of the A body changes - things like moving the steering rack from the body to the front subframe to firm up the steering a bit? It has been a long time since I have owned a Citation - looking for a decent one or the Phoenix version (hatch only)

I do believe those changes happened in '82, along with the introduction of the A-body.

The frame steering was the best. Don't believe Wiki--on the sub frame transfers an opposite torque to the rack and degrades handling. On the firewall, only problem was Cit. and Vegas prone to body rot, some there was dangerous. Less rust at sub frame.

The steering rack moving to the subframe and firming up the steering was something I read in a old Road and Track period magazine as I remember, they called it less "rubbery" steering feel on the Citation II, long time before the internet. Whether as the cars aged the steering was worse or not I do not know, only ever owned a regular Citation (4 door, 2.5/auto), put money down on a new 1982 X-11, decided not to buy once I saw the car in person and drove it. At the time it was just not fast enough for me, although to have the opportunity to buy a new 82' now - I would buy it (hindsight).

Anyways, just something on the Citation II that was mentioned in a less than full feature article in the back pages of the magazine. One of those articles that are space fillers, a few paragraphs, some opinion, mentioning changes, a pic, maybe two.

So I'm now very curious what you bought instead of that '82 Citation?

i bought a 82' Accord believe it or not. Was sold on the japanese hype at the time. The X11 stumbled when cold on the test drive, the Accord did not. As mentioned, the X11 seemed slower than the Accord. Perhaps if GM had installed a 5 speed back in those days it would have made a difference with the gear gaps on a four speed large enough to drive a Mack truck thru (GM at time swore a 5 speed would not fit between the frame rails - proven to be a lie as later cars did in fact come with them to keep up with the imports) But had a lot of first year model issues on the Accord, including unsealed body seams. Only kept the Accord for a year, it was my last japanese car. It sure ran sweet though.
