84 Celeb With No Spark, Help

Alright so, I have an 84 Celebrity wagon with a 2.8l v6. I replaced the engine with a remanufactured one. Got it all in and everything hooked up, and there's no spark. replaced the coil, entire distributor, bypassed the computer for spark control in case that was bad (replaced the ECM, but used the old prom), have checked and cleaned the ignition switch, replaced the battery, nothing is unplugged and everything has continuity, and the resistance in the spark plug wires checks out. The other day I did have spark for a short period, but then it stopped again and now I'm at a loss. Any help and ideas would be appreciated.

1 of 2 things come to mind..

Either the crankshaft position sensor is faulty or missing (located on the back of the DIS module I believe), or, the tone ring on the crank shaft is missing.

(Editted to get incorrect info out of thread)

      84 won?t have a DIS.

Have you checked to make sure you have continuity to power and ground in the correct places?

I?ve lost spark from a bad ground wire before. It wasn?t totally gone, but the connection was bad enough to where spark was gone.

Yeah, an 84 has one coil and a distributor, so no crankshaft sensor or tone ring.

As for the continuity to the grounds and power, I'll check out the continuity when I get the chance and report on what I find.
I did notice that the wires to the alternator didn't look the greatest so bad power and ground wires somewhere could be the issue.

I knew the 2.8 had a distributor, and I thought the 2.5 had the DIS?

More confusingly is that in the OP, he said its a 2.5L V6... Uhm?

So, next thing I would check is to be sure that the distributor is spinning, that the rotor is good, and that the points are not carboned over.

              Now it all makes sense...

So I will bow out at this point, the 2.8 carbed engines I know absolutely nothing about, other than to say, is your coil energizing? Are your wires good? Beyond that, I am not much help.

i checked the grounds in the engine compartment and they seem to be fine. i had checked the grounds for under the dash by the computer already and those were good too.

Was actually wondering if the prom chip could still cause a no spark condition if i bypassed the spark timing.

Pretty sure it all happens in the distributor modules. I had an 86 with a carb, and for some reason if I pushed the engine too hard it would blow the ECM fuse. Probably a wire shorting out somewhere when it flexed. The car still ran fine, just no tcc solenoid and it sucked gas. The car was a cobble job but I only paid $50 for it.

well that rules out the computer then, thank you. still have no idea what it could be tho.

The ignition control module in the distributor? I know they have them, I just dont know if this is the correct part. It has options for the HO and American or Canada Engines.

I'm honestly leaning towards the possibility the ignition coil that came with the new distributor was faulty.

Any progress? Sounds to me like the new distributor has a defective module. It has happed to me before.
