1996 Oldsmobile Ciera - Fusible Links

I noticed that I have a blown fusible link on my Oldsmobile. It's the middle wire on the three that connect to the positive battery connection. It looks like it's been blown for a while and making a test jumper to re-connect it didn't seem to make any difference with how the car behaved.

    Any idea what it's for?

Pics of the wire in question (I put electrical tape over the broken one):

    Thanks!

Those run the direct 12 volt lines such as power locks , headlights , constant 12 volts . But with out a diagram that wire could be a power wire that?s throwing the abs system off I have to look that up to see .

Hey drop me a email mx67627@aol.com I looked up those fusable links on that connect I have two pictures but one of those three goes to the brake relay labeled G not sure if it will be labeled by age but u can see if you run a jumper from it broken off to the battery a see if that light shuts off . But it can?t be a a half ass job being a direct hot 12 volts constant

Thanks Keith. I'll have to try that. My ABS and Brake light are still on even though the brakes work fine. Door locks and other electronics work as expected. It's just the ABS that's out on the car.

When I finally get the time to try and jumper this wire, I'll report back. Right now it's wrapped in electrical tape.

The abs light on can mean a who bunch of things . The brake light added to them could be the third brake lights bulbs are out , the rails lights are out . The abs does a system check primes the abs pump once key is on . Could be the brake light switch too on the brake light pedal . if it was just the abs light could be any of the wheel speed sensors in the hub bearings on any 4 wheels . But honestly there is two ground straps on the drivers radiator support in front of the battery held on by two bolts clean them up and sand them down then reapply . Also the abs relay is on the passenger side firewall behind the passenger strut . The 10 amp fuse for the pusher fan in the fuse box is the same power to that relay . I’d pop the fuse out then resets it when you are done . If it all shuts off for a while ur golden if not code then comes back . And you have to see what code it is . Sometimes the abs pump master cylinder goes bad and throws the headaches . It’s only junk yard option from there no new aftermarket around it’s been discontinued for 15 years
