    Default Deal on a turbo?

    This seams cheap to me. Is it a good price and would it work well on a V6?

    doesnt sound bad for the price, but i would always be a bit leary about buying a used turbo. specially from someone you dont know. good luck if you do buy it, tho

    I'd rather drive a cobbled together rustbucket Ford than a brand new Chrysler anyday.

    That's a T3/T4 hybrid turbo. The exhaust side with the provisions for a built-in wastegate are specific to the T3, and the bolt "bosses" on the exterior of the compressor side are specific to the T4. This unit is actually better suited to a gasoline engine than a straight T4 turbo.

    That is a good price, in spite of the missing wastegate housing. Those go for $50 or so on fleaBay.

    It would be right in the zone for a 3300 or 3.8 engine. Would need the rest of the numbers off the comrpessor housing to know the exact map on it.

    David, Would I be able to run that turbo on a 3.8 with a supercharger also?

    I've never done a turbo-into-supercharger setup, but it has been done. The turbo size considerations would be about the same, because at higher power levels the turbo has to do all the work.

    There have been several different attempts to make this work, but there are some really nasty charge air cooling issues that come up. Most of the time it has been better to go with turbocharger by its self. These engines have so much torque as-is, that the turbo spools near instantly.

    The turbo is a dynamic system that moves air dependant on engine load, but INdependant of engine speed. The supercharger is a positive displacement blower that moves air based on engine speed only. At some point the turbo will start to outrun the blower and the blower will be doing nothing but re-heating the air that has already been intercooled.

    Talk to Skalor about his turbo L67 - it's a proven winner, and he did an amazing fabrication job. He adapted a 1999 or newer transmission mount to his car, AND fabricated an intake plenum to take the place of the supercharger.

    Me too! It's been so long since I dyno'd a car. I'm really excited to get it tested out. I want to do at least one pull with the exhaust unhooked to see just how bad the Flowmaster muffler is restricting it.

    I cranked it up to 21 PSI boost yesterday and it felt like it was about to take flight. Should be quite interesting to see what it is actually doing!

    Thanks for the info I think I'll pass on it since it is not complete, and my plans are up in the air at the moment. Never really had plans for a turbo at all really, but all this talk on here has started to get me curious. I'm beginning to think it is something I should try. BUT, I have a sale pending on my 3400, so I may end up with a 3500 or even a 3900 if I can find one for a good price. Time will tell.

    Glad I could help! Some people feel like they get better boost control by removing the Garrett swing-valve wastegate and using an external gate. This is probably what the previous owner did.

    I don't have a problem with internal gate turbos, they greatly simplify the system fabrication.

    Good luck with that 3900 - I hear they are bad to the bone!
