Hi my name is David. I recently picked up a 1988 cutlass cruiser with 115k. PO left it at his beach house for some years so it has a few rust repair opportunities. Reading here im exciting about joining the following. I was wondering if the 4 pack gauge set i saw in an 88 cierra at the yard will plug in and info on the rear disc mod.

The cluster should be pretty much plug and play. You will have to swap out your oil pressure sensor, and one of the temp sensors to get all the gauges to work correctly.

I've done several rear disc swaps over the last 20 years. Do a search in here and you'll find a lot on it. The hardest part to find (you can't get them new) is the caliper brackets. They have to come from an 84-88 Pontiac 6000 STE.

You say you've got some rust repair. Before you put a lot of work and money into the car, I would check the underside and see how much rust is under there, or rust holes. Check the engine subframe, and where the springs sit in the rear axle. And pay particular attention to the trailing arm brackets, the triangle shaped pieces where the rear axle attaches to the floorpan. Pull the bottom of the rear seat and check under the insulation to see if those areas are rusty. I'm only saying this because it's a common thing on these cars, and many people are unable to repair it. I've repaired 3 of mine but I am an engineer and fabricator, and it's a lot of work.

I owned a 1989 Pontiac 6000LE in the past and just bought a 1986. It's going to need a lot of work but I'm not afraid.

    Oops...

Welcome! At least it looks like you are somewhere where you won't be fighting rust. That takes the 'fun' out of everything.

Hello everyone! My name is Alex and I will soon be the proud owner of an A-body! A-bodies (and many American cars from the same era) make me extremely nostalgic because my grandfather had a 1988 Pontiac 6000LE when I was a kid. I've also always loved the loud groan that is so characteristic with the V6s they came with.

I currently own a 2008 Saturn Astra as a daily driver and have owned a 2005 Chevy Optra and a 1996, grey-market Peugeot 306 before that so I'm not really foreign to GM cars. Now that I've introduced myself, I will go ask a couple of questions in the correct section

Welcome. I grew up with them too, my friend's folks had an 86 Celebrity CL wagon that I loved. The loud groan you speak of, I call it the gurgle, I love that sound too from the 2.8/3.1 engines.

So, it has been a long time since i was on here, so a reintro is necessary. I'm Jody, i'm a half deaf hunchback who lives next to three mile island (i kid you not) who has, now, 2 classic beasts, a 1989 cutlass ciera, 3300 v6, 4 spd sedan named "Fizzgig" that i picked up for 150 bucks, 88k original when i bought it, 109k on it now almost 2 years later, and the more recent purchase, a 1991 Cutlass Cruiser wagon, also a 3300 and 4 spd, known as "Moonchild" (which the pictures will make clear as to why) that we paid 400 for. Both are constantly worked on, Fizzy is my baby, the wagon is the wife's. The two together look like dharma and greg. As soon as i figure out how to add an image, anyway.

I joined back in the early days when this forum started.
I moderated/owned the rarfwdgmabody group on yahoo and a few other groups.
With little or no time to moderate I assigned that to others.
I've been really busy over the last 10 years since I last posted here.
Between moving to a new house where I'm behind on all the work the
property needs ,caring for my elderly mother who is in bad health &
just keeping up with everything life throws at me I don't really have a lot of
Time to go online let alone moderate.
I don't have any/good internet access where I live in rural PA so I
can only get online on my phone when I go into town/civilization.
I still have my "fleet" of abodys though including a
89 Eurosport 4 dr I bought earlier this year.
I hope to get some time to work on them soon.

In addition I also own several Chevy & GMC Duramax diesel pickups.
    A few 91-96 B body Caprices.
A few 2011-13 Dodge Charger police packages with the Hemi V8.
A lot of 1999-2011 Ford crown vic police interceptors.

I daily a 2011 Crown Victoria PI former VA state police unit &
    (2) 2007 classic body style Duramax pickups

I bet there are others here that like those cars too?

Good to hear from you rarecarvr. Been hoping you were still around somewhere and doing ok.

I had a really hard life for 16 years after splitting with my kid's mom. Well she graduated this spring and has her own life and is doing really well, so no longer under my belt but she comes north to visit sometimes which is nice. I'm also in a better house on a better piece of property where I can finally do whatever I want. Still in the same neck of the woods. So I'm finally in a better position that way. Unfortunately I've had a lot of medical issues and still more to come, getting another surgery next month. But I'm still kickin and still driving a-bodies and will keep doing so as long as I can.

    I do love my 1984 F41 B-body that I bought new.

Definitely aged better than I have. It's got more options and features, while I've gone the other way!

Good to hear you are doing well Troy, life sometimes is never predictable.
I recall reading about the ordeal you went through on the yahoo group earlier.
I've had my share of nightmares that would take too much time to go over.
A lot of us are just getting old-it stinks!
I'm not like I used to be-l find myself having to use reading glasses more often
& fell breaking my ribs last year-I'm still not 100% yet.
    Back pain comes & goes-ugh.
I hope to get up your way sometime soon-have not been able to travel far or much the last few years.
I'll try to post more often but like I mentioned internet access & free time is a problem.
If you find yourself in PA anytime in the future I can make time to meet up-I'm a little closer to MI now hehe.

F41 must be a rare option for the civilian Caprice?
The 9C1 may have that as part of that package.
I'd like to find a decent "stock" 89-90 boxy 9C1 police package
    that doesn't cost a fortune.
I'm also on the hunt for a fixer upper 96 Impala SS.
The main factor is it has to be the "cheapest in the USA"
(if you watch car videos on YouTube you know where that's from)
