Going to pick up some new Kenwood KFC-4675C 4x6 speakers for the front sometime next week. Existing ones aren't doing too well and it's really starting to bug me.

Although I had initially decided against it, I think I may also be leaning towards getting a "modern" aftermarket headunit as well. How difficult are they to install? Do I need to go out and buy special cables/adapters to make them fit?

Go with crutchfield.com u can look through all the stereos most of them come with a package with wireharness and face plate adapter included for 100 bucks or so . It's not to hard overall

So, my car broke down today.....

I was stopped on the side of the road for maybe like 30 minutes and when I went to go start it, well, it didn't. The dome light
would come on after about 20 minutes of stoppage so I assumed it was the battery. I got a friend to boost it but to no avail.
No light, nothing. I started freaking out a little bit, as I have no idea what else it could be. Any advice?

I have a mechanic friend who's going to take a look tomorrow (car broke down at 10pm). I'm thinking it might have something to
do with the aftermarket (automatic) starter installed on the car by the previous owner, but that's just a guess.

Would it crank? did it make any noise when you turned the key?

If the battery is mostly dead it will make a quick ticking noise, if it makes no noise could be the battery or starter or some wiring in the aftermarket autostarter.

If it was turning the engine and not starting than it could be a whole bunch of other things.

Engine wasn't turning at all. No tick, no sound. Could blown fuses, or even bad battery terminals cause failure like this? When I bought the car (last month) the previous owner told me he had changed it for a new one, but who knows what really happened.

Turns out it was just a faulty battery terminal. It was uncovered, and one of the screws came loose and fell out.

Now thats' an easy fix
I was struggling with electric fuel pump: sometimes relay started, sometimes not, sometimes it turned the pump off while driving and I was sitting in the traffic trying to start it. Then I found that my battery "+" terminal was loose - tightened it up and forgot about pump issues.

Next on my list of things to do is to fix the sagging headliner, change out the tires/rims and replace the suspension (and maybe drop it a little bit).

I'm a "Professional" (I say it loosely, because I have too much fun doing it, lol ) auto/marine/motorcycle upholsterer, have done many, many headliners of all varieties, and agree with everyone that if you don't mind doing the work yourself, redoing the headliner on your own will definetly save you money and if you approach it right, will be a fun project you can be proud of when you complete it! (I don't think I'm helping my job security out, lol, just kidding)

The hardest part is removing the headliner board from the car (necessary to do the job the way most folks do it), which requires removing all of the upper trim, the dome light, and rear view mirror. Removing the front seat(s) also speeds the project up significantly, but isn't 100% necessary. As others said, 3M super 90 adhesive will work great, or RP2020 (usually available at upholstery shops) if you can find it, works great as well and if you want it to look just like it came out of the factory, use foam-backed headliner material:

Removing the old foam, glue residue is best done with a hand-held steel wire brush. Be sure to be OCD about removing all of the old foam and glue, as any left behind will let the new foam/fabric sag in a short amount of time (usually the first really hot day).

I wouldn't say I'm in a rush, but I was hoping to get it done on the next 10 days (before I go on a road trip around southern Ontario; about 1300 kilometers). Would you be able to PM me (or post) a quick how-to if it's not too much trouble? How much do you think it would cost if it were to be done professional?

Hey Sam and PGuru,

Yeah, sorry, my bad on the tutorial... I've been busy as all get out at work and then have been sick with some sort of nasty chest cold for the last week, so nothing's been getting done. Stay tuned for a headliner tutorial in the near future. Luckily the tutorial applies to just about any mid '70s through mid '2000s US (and some foreign) made cars, so hopefully it will be handy for the A-Body.net members...
