Default Original Equipment fan motors are better than aftermarket.....

This happened today and cut short my weekend flea market / antique shop trip and turned it into a junkyard trip!

The fan on the '92 has a strange 'bark' (like the start up of belt driven HVAC blower with a slight slippage) occasionally on start up. It is some Chinese motor that Mr. Goodwrench installed. No indication of brand. I've had it out and inspected twice. No rough bearings or fan slippage.

Crap, mine is still the original factory motor. I should probably get a spare o.e.m. one and put it on the shelf just in case.

Yep the factory motors "seem to" have a better winding that doesn't break down with heat.

These motors have an oil felt in them. You can oil the felt in the rear of the motor and prolong the life greatly. The commutator brushes will eventually wear out but that takes a very long time.
