Column Gear shift knob FUBAR

This guy gave it up over the weekend, it's the 2nd one that has been installed. Ordered new one from Mr. Bezos.

My question is how do you get the old one off, take channel locks and just crush it?

Either heat it up with a blow dryer to get the glue soft, and pull... or.... Crush it, and replace it after clearing off all the glue.

Thanks, I don't believe there is any glue as it spins freely on the shift column. Looks like there may be a "knob" you slide it over and tap with a rubber mallet. Still the crush method should work. Car is not with me presently otherwise I'd include pics.

Been a long time but I believe part of it is a splined press fit. Back before my 19 year old was born, I put a skull knob on her mom?s Celebrity column shifter. Seems to me I ended up just cutting it apart with a dremel but crushing it probably works just as well. Or heating it up and trying to pull it off. Or maybe drill into the end and use a small puller.

Dorman product 76937 showed up. I ended up having to get medieval with the Channel Locks on the old one to get it off and hammer the new one on. Good as new.
